Supporting Rob Through Cancer Relapse
Donation protected
In February 2023, Robert was feeling generally unwell & asked his wife Paige to take him to an urgent care center. He was quickly diagnosed with cancer & their lives were abruptly thrown into an absolute whirlwind. Within the coming weeks, Robert was diagnosed with a rare type of Leukemia. (Philadelphia Chromosome Positive B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) Unfortunately he also became paralyzed from the waist down during his treatment. Robert may never walk again, even if his condition does improve, he will probably need some kind of assistance (walker, cane, braces, etc.) for the rest of his life. He is currently wheelchair bound. Before he became ill, Robert was the primary breadwinner. Now, he is unable to work & Paige is unable to work as it's not safe to leave Robert home alone. If you are unfamiliar with Social Security Disability Income & other disability benefits, there is a waiting period between when you become disabled & when you become eligible for benefits. Robert is currently stuck in that waiting period. It's also no secret how hard it is to get food stamps in Johnson County right now due to the office being grossly understaffed. They are struggling to just keep themselves fed. Robert has physical therapy or cancer appointments almost daily. Keeping enough gas in their vehicle to get to & from these appointments has also been incredibly difficult, not to mention they have been unable to keep up with regular maintenance on their only vehicle which is nearing 20 years old. Robert & Paige have done everything they can possibly think of to carry themselves to this point. It's not easy to ask for help but they just don't know what else to do. If their story resonates with you & you can find it in your heart to help, I can't put into words how much that would mean to Robert, Paige & all of their extended family as well. If you are unable to help financially, please share this with your family & friends. Every penny received will help get Robert to his appointments, will help to pay for his prescription co-pays, will help to put food on the table, will help to pay for his medical supplies, will help keep their car running, etc. Every little bit helps!!! Thank you so much!!!
September 8th, 2023 Robert & Paige got the news they were hoping to never hear again, or at least not for another 10-20 years. Rob's cancer has relapsed (returned). He is now being referred over to the transplant team to look at his options for Bone Marrow Transplant. Needless to say, this is a very scary & trying time for everyone involved. We appreciate your contributions more than words can adequately express. Sending out love & positive vibes to everyone who takes the time to read this, we appreciate you!!!
