Lea has been a nurse for 20 years, caring for countless patients, but is currently on medical leave without pay as she herself recovers from radiation and chemotherapy after having tonsil cancer. She is the mother of 5, with 2 young children still at home. After a recent car accident, she is now without a vehicle, as insurance did not cover a new one. She needs a car not only for her family, but to get to weekly therapy sessions for wound care.

Other health complications signify a longer road to healing. Lea is also receiving treatment for long-term memory loss after a viral infection in her brain. She is applying for long-term disability but in the meantime needs support from her community. Once she has healed she hopes to return to being a nurse.
