Support Victims of Oak Park Shooting

On March 25 at 5:59 PM a family was gunned down in their car. Their car, riddled with bullets, was destroyed.

Behind the numbers and the headlines are people left to deal with the aftermath:

Grandma has lived at the site of the shooting for decades and is a well-loved member of our community. She's an open book that helps anyone and everyone she can. She has multiple gunshot wounds, needs surgery, and is intubated.

The grandson is a fun-loving homebody, at the start of his promising plumbing and pipefitting career. While in a stable condition, has a long road to recovery due to the injuries he sustained.

The youngest, at only four, is a precocious and energetic kid who loves sports. He was devastated to learn that, due to his injury, he cannot participate in his favorite sports. The youngest received a fracture and needs assistive devices while he heals.

On top of these medical costs, they need help with the emergency room trip, the costs incurred from pausing their lives, and the toll taken on their mental health. Any donation, no matter how big or small, makes a difference. Our community could do nothing in the heat of the moment other than stare agape and hope for the best.

But now, we can stand in solidarity with our neighbors as we all work through the trauma of gun violence. I am a neighbor of the shooting victims, and I am working with the mom of the youngest son, Dawn, to raise money for them. Dawn will use the funds to pay for hospital bills and other necessities while the family heals.

We want to organize the funds and resources needed to support the family as they persevere through this crisis. Please help us by donating and sharing this cause.

Also, if you are local to the site of the shooting and wish to join the Meal Train for the family or help in any way you can, then text 9165382857 to do so.
