Help Vic Lund Recover from Paralyzing Spinal Injury

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Deva Powell, and I'm setting up this GoFundMe on behalf of my brother, Vic Lund, who was in a serious car accident on April 24, 2024, and is now paralyzed from his sternum down. Vic, known by many, many people in Salem, Oregon and the surrounding areas as a wonderful musician (stage name Vik and Vik Rude), needs your help as he and his loving wife Carla face this challenge together.

What happened?

Vic was involved in a rollover accident on April 24th. He sustained serious injuries, including seven broken ribs, two crushed vertebrae, and damage to his spinal cord (T-5 and T-6). Vic is paralyzed from the sternum down. Due to the nature of his injury there is no way to know if, or how much, feeling might be recovered over the course of 18 months. Vic was moved into a rehabilitation facility on Monday, May 6th, where he is undergoing several weeks of intense physical therapy to strengthen his upper body and practice daily living skills. This is a very challenging and painful time for Vic, both physically and mentally. He has shown great motivation and willingness to practice physical therapy and give it his all, despite the challenges. The cover photo shows Vic playing his ukelele while in intensive care, as a way of maintaining lung capacity and manual dexterity. His love of music sustains him greatly!

What challenges are Vic and his family facing?

• Extensive medical bills
• Loss of Vic’s income
• Loss of income from Carla’s home business due to caring needs for Vic
• Cost of modifications to their home to make it accessible for Vic, and easy for caregivers to care for him
• Transportation issues for Carla due to decreasing eyesight from a degenerative eye disease
• Physical health challenges for Carla
• Strain on mental and physical health for Carla, Vic, and their family

How can you help?
• Donations: All donations collected through this GoFundMe are for the benefit of Vic and Carla Lund. Our family is in the process of doing the necessary legal research for setting up a Special Needs Trust, and once established, the funds will be deposited into that Trust, again to help them with expenses not covered by Medicare and/or Medicaid (transportation, equipment, re-education/training, and more).

Fundraiser at West Side Station (610 Edgewater Street NW, Salem OR 97304) on June 2nd from 1-7pm. Vic’s good friend Kevin Hansen has gathered many talented musicians to perform all day! Please stop by for some good music, food, and fun! All ages welcome. All proceeds will go into the Special Needs Trust and used towards expenses not covered by insurance.
