My brother, Thomas Girten, entered the hospital on October 8, 2025 with severe necrotizing pancreatitis affecting all of his vital organs. He was quickly admitted to the ICU on full life support while in a coma and remained in the ICU for six weeks to stabilize. He transferred to a long-term acute care hospital on November 20, 2025 and requires ongoing medical care and extensive rehabilitation. He is expected to remain in the hospital for several weeks to months and faces a long road to recovery.

Thomas is a military veteran and served as a police officer for many years. He was looking for new career opportunities prior to this event; therefore, his family is currently without his income.
