Support the Myhre Family in Porter's Medical Battle
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Courtney. I am creating this GoFundMe on behalf of the Myhre family.
Shaun and Samantha Myhre have 2 sons, Frankie (3 years old) and Porter (4 months old). On September 27th, Porter had developed a very high fever that would not break. They took Porter to Rutland Regional Medical Center and were transferred to the Pediatric ICU at the University of Vermont Medical Center. He stayed in the Pediatric ICU for several days before being transferred to the Children’s Hospital at UVM on October 5th, where he remains. During all this, it was found that Porter was born with Posterior Urethra Valves (PUV), a rare congenital disorder that occurs when a flap of fetal tissue blocks the urethra in male infants. With this disorder, urine flow becomes blocked, which can cause the bladder, ureters, and kidneys to swell and become damaged. Due to his blockage, Porter developed a severe infection of MRSA in his urine and in his blood, too. He has acquired acute kidney injury and damage to his bladder from extreme pressure over time.
Porter has had procedure after procedure, including placing a central line for IV administration, placing multiple different catheters (foleys & suprapubic), MRI screening, ablation of the tissue in his urethra, and urodynamic testing. He's had a blood transfusion, fluid replacement, and multiple electrolyte replenishments. He will still need at least 2 more weeks of antibiotics, if not longer. He has another surgery, a vesicostomy, to be scheduled. This is a surgical procedure that creates an opening in the abdomen to allow urine to drain from the bladder into a diaper. This is a temporary "fix" and will require more testing later on, among other things. He has gone through so much in his short time in this world.
I am creating this GoFundMe to help them lessen the financial burden this situation has put them in. If you know Shaun and Sam, the idea of creating a GoFundMe, of asking for help, is foreign to them. It is understandably hard for them to admit that they need help. Hence why I am doing it for them. Sam has been out of work since September 27th. Thankfully, she was granted a personal leave of absence for 30 days; and, thanks to her coworkers, she has had CTO days donated. Shaun has taken a few days off from work and has been trying to keep life at home afloat. He, with the help of family and friends, have taken care of Frankie. Shaun is working full-time and helping their newly-acquired business, all while trying to be there mentally and physically (when able) for Sam and Porter.
However, it is unclear when Porter will be able to be discharged. Therefore, Sam does not know when she will be able to return to work. With her leave coming to a close, they are not sure how they will be able to afford their medical bills, their personal bills, the cost of gas to travel back and forth from Rutland to Burlington, the cost of meals (in and out of the hospital), Shaun taking a few days off from work, and more.
Porter has many, many tests ahead of him. It is becoming abundantly clear they are in need of support. Please consider donating to this family in need, sharing this link, or both. Many friends, family and community members have asked and offered help in any way; now is that opportunity to help if you can. It will be greatly appreciated. We understand that some people might not want to donate on GoFundMe so donations can also be made via Venmo @samyhre.
Thank you.
