Hello, my name is Amy Dangel. My husband, James, and I are the owners of the Scotland Meat Locker in Scotland, South Dakota.

On Thursday, January 29, while getting ready to close up for the day, a fire broke out at our business. Thankfully, James, two of our children, and our dog were able to get out safely. James did suffer minor smoke inhalation, but we are incredibly grateful that everyone made it out alive.

Unfortunately, the fire itself was devastating. Despite efforts to control it, our business—and our livelihood—was a total loss. Right now, we are working with our insurance company and remain hopeful that we will be able to rebuild, but as many people know, that process can take a long time.

I never imagined having to create something like this. We’re very private people, and James isn’t on social media at all. However, so many have reached out asking how they can help or if there is a way to support us. This fundraiser is our answer to those questions.

The funds raised will help cover the many unexpected expenses we will face over the coming year as we do everything we can to rebuild our business and support our family. We have four young children, and while this loss has been overwhelming, we are determined to move forward.

I will do my best to share updates as we can. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, support, and generosity. It truly means more to us than we can put into words.
