ABOUT THE SOCIAL JUSTICE PLAY FESTIVAL, THE WHILE SERIES
The Social Justice Play Festival is a binge-watch of unique short plays featuring social issue-based diverse stories across U.S. History covering topics such as racism, xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, and abortion access.
The Play Fest had two great Staged Readings this month, January 2023 in front of an audience with 32 tickets reserved for the first one! This was playwright, Toma Lynn Smith's first staged reading. We greatly appreciate all our donors (both private donors and those who donated via GoFundMe) who made that possible!
What our Staged Reading audience members said:
"I recently saw The While Series at The Den and was so taken with a grassroots, hard-hitting collection of artists very much embodying that style of Chicago theatre that made this city and its theatre scene blow up back in the early days and the advent of the rock-and-roll theatre of the 80s and 90s. Important stories about communities and individuals that many institutions have only started to scratch the surface of connecting with, and what Toma and the ensemble of The While Series are laying claim to the ripple before the wave."
"Wonderfully written and powerful plays - thank you! Looking forward to seeing them in March!"
The Play Fest is asking for additional donations for our March 2023 production to cover the following expenses:
- Cast and Crew Stipends
- Venue Rent (for Rehearsals and Performances)
- Liability Insurance
- Production Expenses
- Costumes, sets, and props
- Publicity: Marketing & PR (advertising and programs)
- Administrative Costs, including fundraising fees
$5, $10, $20, $50, $100, $500, $1,000, $5,000, $10,000, or $20,000 - any amount is greatly appreciated; it all adds up! If you aren't able to give, sharing this post via email or social media would be a huge help.
As a reminder, donations can be placed anonymously.
