Support Sean's Battle Against Brain Cancer

“I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship.” -Louisa May Alcott

This is not the end to the story, it is just the beginning! At just 25 years old, Sean went through months of testing, imaging, and appointments for his battle to be given a name. Diffuse Midline Glioma. Words that should never come out of the mouth of anyone let alone a Neurosurgeon from Duke University. At that moment, the war paint went on and the fight began!

A son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew, boyfriend, soccer coach, avid hockey fan, volunteer firefighter, and all around good human… this fight will not be fought alone!! The attack is aggressive, but we are ready to stand arm in arm!!

The outpouring of love and support has been one of the most heartwarming experiences one never hopes to have to receive. So many have asked how to help and support the Moros family. We set up this fund to support treatment, travel expenses, and any other needs to may come their way!

Sean’s story is just beginning and we are here to #GiveItHell!!!

From Sean:
Hello all,

For those of you who do not know, I have recently been diagnosed with Brain Cancer. Around Christmas I began to feel numbness in my left foot. Initially, I did not think much of it and as the weeks/months passed, the numbness crept up my body into my left arm and face. When I spoke to my primary physician he encouraged me to get a MRI where we learned there was swelling on my brain stem. After speaking with a neurologist, we believed I had MS due to many of my symptoms being similar. My first course of action was to receive a spinal tap. Fortunately and unfortunately, that spinal fluid came back normal. The second course of action was to be placed on a steroid and get another MRI in hopes that the swelling would subside and reveal a lesion on the brain. After a month, the second MRI came back with zero changes. My next step was to see a neurosurgeon to receive a biopsy. After meeting with a local neurosurgeon and oncologist, they revealed to me that it is a tumor and that it is “aggressive” due to its location. They met with their tumor board and deemed that a biopsy was not needed along with news that I’d rather not speak of. Not taking what they said as a final diagnosis, my family and I were put in contact with some of the best doctors in the country at Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC. There I received a biopsy and learned that I have a high grade malignant tumor on my brainstem. It is roughly 20-30% larger than normal. In the coming weeks I will be undergoing radiation therapy and be given a clinical trial at Duke to fight off this cancer.

Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I navigate through this difficult process. Hug your loved ones, live life to the fullest and be kind to those around you. I apologized for the long message, however, I thank you for taking the time to read it.

Sincerely,
Sean
