Support Ryder's Fight Against Diabetes

Hello everyone, thank you for taking the time to read this. I'm not sure where to even start, I guess the beginning is the best. Ryder was sick with influenza A at the end of February and lost A Lot of weight. His 11th birthday was March 3rd and he still hadnt put back on any weight he had lost and seemed to be thirsty all the time. He then got sick 2 more times and was sent home from urgent care with "stomach flu" over the next 2 weeks. Then, on Wednesday, March 19 Ryder was really super sick. We took him to the clinic again and asked them to check his blood sugar...and it was super high, off their charts. We were sent to the emergency room. From there, Ryder was taken by ambulance to Madison Children's Hospital, as he was in full blown Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA). We were told that he has type 1 diabetes and will require insulin shots daily for the rest of his life. We stayed for about a week and got the diabetes under control and learned everything we would need to help him. We, like most families, live paycheck to paycheck and worry how we are going to afford his specialized diet and keep our heads afloat with bills and mortgage. We missed a lot of work and need any help we can get. We are also learning that we are all going to have to get new phones because our very old phones have an extremely difficult time communicating with his continuous glucose monitor, which monitors his blood sugar levels. Our current phones just can't keep up. Not to mention the appointments in Madison we are going to have to go to, which means more lost time at work. To make matters even worse, Katrinna, Ryders mom, is a high school lunch lady. She is not paid during the summer months when school is not in session. She can't even get unemployment during that time, as benefits for those positions were taken away during the pandemic and have not been reinstated. On that note, we would like to say that we are totally grateful for any donations you can give, no matter how small, it will help us tremendously!!... Thank you!
