Support Ren Athens' Trans Wellness Initiative

Hi!

My name is Ren Athens and I am mobilizing resistance against the growing inaccessibility and lack of resources for trans individuals in Washington, DC. Many trans individuals are at risk with their jobs on the line, no access to healthcare, and increased stress levels. It’s imperative that resources in the fitness/wellness space are provided to trans individuals by trans individuals.

My mission is to provide weekly classes for our trans/non-binary community in DC (DMV) and offer 1:1 training for trans individuals. The goal is to create a safe fitness community, provide fitness/wellness resources for transitioning folks, and provide education to the fitness industry on how to improve accessibility in their own businesses.

It’s important that trans people have access to fitness training during their transitions. It is also important for harm reduction that is desperately needed with people struggling with substance abuse, addictions, mental health issues, stress, side effects from HRT, and effectively preventing pre-post surgery complications.

My experience as a previously certified personal trainer with ACE (American Council of Exercise) and my 16 years of athletics and training position me as someone who can make an impact with the trans community. As a trans woman who has experienced transphobia in the workplace, in the fitness industry, and also in everyday life, I understand the dire need for important trans voices.

What does this proceeds help with?

- Purchasing of materials and test with NASM (the most credible and highly educated certification program for personal trainers)

Since I have previous experience training, I plan to take the test ASAP. My goal is to have training up and running by June 2025.
