Dear Friends and Supporters,

I am reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your support for the communities of the Ucayali región and yarina chocha lake villages in the Peruvian Amazon. As a member of these communities-half shipibo, an indigenous tribe- and someone who has grown up here, I can tell you that these villages are facing an unprecedented crisis. Over the past few weeks, relentless rains have caused the river to overflow, submerging homes, schools, and local businesses. Families have lost everything, and many are now in desperate need of help. The floodwater have not only destroyed belongings and displaced families, but they also brought a wave of sickness. The water has contaminated drinking supplies, and with outhouses flooded, where kids swimming in that water of human waste is now spreading throughout the area. As a result, waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, ammonia, and dysentery are now rampant. Of where these communities have been living.

In addition, the flooding have killed crops and fruits, driving up food prices. These villages, already remote and difficult to access, are now cut of from supplies, as the road to Lima -the capital of Peru - is impassable.

This crises has taken a personal toll on my family. My mother and grandfather have both contracted illnesses from the contaminated water, and our own home is submerged. Our kitchen floor is under water, and the homes of many neighbors HOUSES are similar affected. It's the definition of "sleeping with the fishes " we want to help are friends, family and the communities.

The medical facility in the area are overwhelmed and unable to meet the demand for treatment. Many families cannot afford the necessary medicins or even the basic necessities - good, clean water , and there shelters floors being flooded. These are people who have always supported each other, building lives together in thai town, but now they need us more than ever.
