My nephew has fought since conceived to be part of this world. His twin was lost in the early weeks of pregnancy, while my nephew clung to life. Unfortunately, he was born too early, at 24 weeks, the cusp of a viable life. He had a brain bleed at birth, making him need a reservoir in his head to help drain that swelling. He had Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), but fortunately, the treatment worked. He has since fought many more obstacles to live on. He has had respiratory and heart problems, and he has had about 3 surgeries/invasive procedures to help him. He might still need 2 or 3 more surgeries/procedures in the short term. He’s currently on oxygen, feeding tubes, and being followed up by Neuro, Gastro and Endocrine doctors (due to complications of his liver). His recent diagnosis of Hyperinsulinism is still being explored. Doctors can not know how much of his Neurological development will be affected or how much medical help he will need later in his life.

They need help to navigate the beginning of his medically involved life. There are still many unknowns for them and have had unexpected medical bills raised. Vicky, my sister, has been at his bedside during all this time (these past 4.5 months) and has not worked, leaving them financially burdened. Her husband, Eric, barely keeps them afloat.

So, any support for my nephew is greatly needed and appreciated. I decided to disclose this (with their permission) to help him. He recently had a fallback in his health. But they hope to bring him home soon. All the funds will be used to pay his unexpected medical bills and items needed for him to come home and have home health care there. This will also help with any needed items to better help them care for him at home, as they may arise.
