On Monday afternoon, January 19th, 23-year-old Olivia "Liv" Zerwas was walking on a sidewalk in Cambridge, MA when she was struck by a vehicle. Her life has now changed forever. Olivia suffered catastrophic injuries, including: a traumatic brain injury, two broken legs, a broken foot, eight fractured vertebrae and second and third degree burns over 33% of her body. She has already undergone numerous surgeries and remains in the hospital's Burn Intensive Care Unit. Olivia's right leg requires amputation. Liv's future will entail multiple additional surgeries and skin grafts to address her burns and extensive rehabilitation for her other injuries.
Liv is a sweet, beautiful soul with a hilarious sense of humor. Upon graduating from Shrewsbury High School, she pursued an Art Therapy degree at Emmanuel College. Liv's kind heart and passion led her to work as an Art Therapist at a senior living community. Liv and the Zerwas family now face a long and difficult road to recovery. The medical diagnoses are profound and the collateral impact on all their lives is overwhelming. The road ahead will reshape her life in ways that are still unfolding. Recovery will take years, not months, and will involve challenges that go far beyond the hospital.
This fund is intended to help support Liv through the many needs that lie ahead, including: medical care, rehabilitation, adaptive equipment and the day-to-day realities of living with permanent disabilities. This GoFundMe has been started by close friends and family. Every message, every share and every contribution means more than we can express. Your continued support will make a real difference as she takes this journey one step at a time. On behalf of the Zerwas family, thank you.
