Support Nathan Garcia

Donation protected

Nathan Garcia lives with Xia Gibbs Syndrome, which has caused his medical needs to advance beyond the knowledge even the most knowledgeable specialists and doctors have to treat him. This means that his family, Jeanine, Joe, Matthew, and Jonathan carry the unique challenge of supporting Nathan, their son and brother respectively, through his recovery. They are in uncharted waters and in need of a new vehicle to transport Nathan as well as monetary support while Joe is off work taking care of his family. Please read the most recent update from Jeanine below and make a donation today to help support the Garcia family.

(From Jeanine)
It has been 33 days since Nathan’s spinal fusion. We were admitted at CHOC for 25 long days, discharged home with a complex 14-week medication plan, no longer having a car that meets Nathan’s transportations needs and recovery entailing relearning the use/regulation of his mind & body. Joe and I once again find ourselves filling unmet needs and gaps in care because what our son needs doesn’t exist— nor do we have the means to build it. We’ve had some roadblocks with access to outpatient care, trying to work through pain management at home and trips to the ER, but we are still committed to keeping one foot in front of the other for our family. Once again, our home is a recovery center in more ways than one, and although we miss the CHOC nursing and care staff, it’s so good to be home.

Nathan is a warrior. His mind, body and spirit have been tested over and over during his entire life, but this surgery, this recovery, is beyond anything he has ever experienced. He’s SO brave and I see him trying with all his might to motor plan, breathe through pain, use his words to communicate, seek comfort in those he loves most and find himself.

I’m not going to lie, Nathan isn’t the easiest to person to support through pain but also it is impossible to miss how many people he teaches and touches with his true self. Thank you all for the continued love, prayers and cards that he is still opening.❤️‍
