Hi! My name is Mia, I‘m 23 years old, and I‘ve been living with Long COVID POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) for several years. My life was flipped upside down by this condition, as have many other young people.
In 2023 I participated in a clinical trial for Long COVID POTS, where myself and many others in the study saw incredible improvement. I went from being a bedridden college student to working outside for my summer job and acing my classes in just a few months. But then the trial abruptly canceled.
Now, researchers at Yale University are taking the next crucial step to understand why some of us responded so well. To do this, they need samples from former participants like me. If they detect the same immune patterns and response signals in enough of us, it could lay the foundation for a new trial or even give grounds for a compassionate-use request- potentially restoring treatment access for patients who improved on the study.
Unfortunately, there is no funding to help participants travel to the research site in New York City, where blood has to be processed quickly. I‘ll be covering as much as I can, but I need help with airfare and transportation to the clinic, roughly $800 total. Your support would not only help me personally get to New York, but also move vital Long COVID research forward for our entire community. Even small donations can make a big difference- and if 20 of us can get there, we could open the door for treatment for thousands.
Thank you for believing in science, in hope, and in us.
❤️ Mia
