Support Mercy Pascua's Funeral Expenses and Medical Bills.

Don protégé
I am a friend of Mercy’s daughter Linda who gave permission to create this Gofund Me page on her family’s behalf. On January 19th, Heaven gained a beautiful Angel in Mercedes “Mercy” Pascua. Born on May 4, 1939, in Kau, Big Island, and called home to be with her husband, Juan Pascua, and grandson, Jacob. She also reunited with her parents, Ireneo and Apolonia Mateo, sister, Violeta Guillermo, and brother, Alejandro Mateo.

Mercy grew up in Laoag City, Philippines, and returned to Hawaii as a young adult where she met her husband, Juan, while waitressing at Dalisai restaurant in Downtown Honolulu. She later worked at Jumbo’s Drive Inn as a food prep and was known for her “yellow sauce” amongst other customer favorites. She retired after almost 30 years of service.

Mercy had such a love for life. She enjoyed her gardening and would often get up early to tend to her flowers and vegetables. She also loved cooking and would make the most delicious Kalua turkey, pork guisantes, pancit, chili, and chicken adobo. Her cooking was hard to match as she never measured ingredients/seasonings. She also enjoyed shopping and weekend drives to the North Shore. She would often wake up early and be ready for the day’s adventures, whether it be going to garage sales, riding around, finding places to eat, or going to the beach. She loved drinking her Budweiser and eating her poke and other snacks. Mercy was also such a prankster and would find humor in things. She enjoyed family gatherings and playing games.

In her later years, she would often ask to go “riding” on the weekends and enjoyed staying out all day. Sometimes she would go walking on the beach at Kualoa Ranch, Haleiwa Beach, Kailua Beach, Ala Moana, and other beaches and stops along the way. She also enjoyed stopping by the cemetery to visit and would share a beer or two with her husband and rest before heading back on the road again. She enjoyed engaging in conversations with people she would run into, often speaking to them as if they were lifelong friends. She had a love for meeting people and people-watching. It brought so much joy and laughter to watch her enjoying her many outings with her grandsons, Joshua and Mykle. They also knew how to keep grandma entertained and were also very protective.

In April 2023, Mercy was diagnosed with cancer and successfully completed chemo. She did well for some time and was admitted to Kuakini Medical Center on December 20th. She did well for several weeks and her progress was promising; however, in January, her health began to decline.

Mercy is predeceased by her husband, Juan, and grandson, Jacob. She is survived by her children, Alfred, Reynald (Barbara and children Niko and Reyna), Ermelinda “Linda” (grandsons Joshua and Mykle Warren), and granddaughter, Melody Geraldi-Akui. Siblings: Primo Mateo and Rose Galima.

Because of the unexpected and sudden passing, the family is raising funds to cover funeral costs and other related costs to provide support and care not covered by medical, with daily fees at Hale Pulama Mau being approximately $500 per day. Any donations are appreciated. Funds will be transferred to her daughter who was her primary caregiver.
