Support medical treatment for Prof. Fekadu Beyene Kenee

Our friend Fekadu needs your help for cure! Prof Dr Fekadu Beyene Kenee is a Full Professor of Institutional and Resource Economics at Haramaya University, Ethiopia. He received his PhD degree from Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, his Masters degree from Wageningen University of The Netherlands and his Bachelor's degree from Haramaya University. During this esteemed career we had the pleasure to work and enjoy life with him.

Fekadu is an important member of Haramaya University for over 30 years, with a career in teaching, research, academic advising and university leadership, including as head of department and most recently as Vice President of Administration and Students Affairs.

Fekadu is a well-established member of the academic community working on the role of institutions and governance for natural resource management associated with agriculture. As such he is highly esteemed by the groups that have the pleasure to work with him, such as CAPRI Project at the Division of Resource Economics at HU Berlin (until 2017), the section on International Agricultural Policy and Environmental Governance at University of Kassel or the Global Partnership Network (GPN) funded by the DAAD and also situated in Kassel. In Kassel, Fekadu also made a valuable contribution teaching and researching as GPN Wangari Maathai Visiting Professor during 2022/23.

Unfortunately, Fekadu turned ill recently with a serious form of cancer. Means to address it have been exhausted in Ethiopia. Now the advice is to undergo treatment in Delhi, India at a reputed hospital. Very promising arrangements have already been made in this regard. Chances of healing are relatively good given the outstanding medical and technical standards in this specialist hospital. However, insurance in Ethiopia does not cover the elevated costs of such treatment (min. 23.000USD/21.000€).

Thus, with this campaign the communities and friends of Fekadu that were allowed to work with him want to collect donations to support his cancer treatment. Ideally, we were able to bring together the necessary amount until 11 October 2024 because this is the time when Fekadu would need to start preparations for the treatment in India. Thus, time is scarce and significant support is needed.
