On November 21st, the Luna family received heartbreaking news: Their 15-year-old son, Malachi, has been diagnosed with a rare and advanced Stage 4 colon cancer. His current medical team has never encountered this type of cancer in a child and is unable to determine the best treatment plan for him.

After hearing recommendations about the cancer treatment centers in Texas, Malachi’s parents, Rikki and Matt Luna, reached out to MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Houston area. The specialists there are willing to review Malachi’s unique case and explore treatment options.

However, pursuing treatment at MD Anderson comes with significant financial challenges. Since Kaiser and MD Anderson do not have a partnership, the necessary treatments won’t be covered by insurance, leaving the family to shoulder an overwhelming financial burden.
