Supporting Our Maine Community During This Crisis
Like so many of you, Waverly and I are heartbroken by the state of our country and especially by the cruel, unnecessary, and dehumanizing actions carried out by ICE. This past week, it hit close to home when ICE showed up in Southern Maine.
This is our home. The people being targeted are our friends, our neighbors, and folks we encounter as we go about our daily lives. Right now, many of them are living in fear. Some are unable to leave their homes or go to work because they are afraid of being picked up, or worse. Families are sheltering in place and facing real uncertainty about how they will meet their most basic needs.
We are currently in Palm Springs for the season, which makes this moment especially difficult. Being away means we cannot provide the direct support our community needs right now. Still, we cannot stand by and do nothing.
With the help of a local community organizer, we are identifying individuals and families who urgently need financial support. Funds raised through this GoFundMe will go directly to community members who are unable to work, leave their homes, or safely access resources due to the ongoing ICE presence.
This page exists for one simple reason: to support our neighbors and help them get through an incredibly frightening and uncertain time.
I am starting this fundraiser with a $500 personal donation. If you are in a position to give, please consider doing so. Your contribution will directly support a Maine family in need and offer care and solidarity when it is most needed. Every dollar and every share makes a difference. No amount is too small. Every contribution helps and is deeply appreciated.
Your support means the world to our extended community and to me. Thank you for standing with Maine.
