Galen's Note: I've known and worked with Lia Veiga for 11 years. She recently experienced the loss of her sister, Eliete, who leaves behind two young children. Lia, a single missionary woman, has taken on the huge responsibility of caring for these two beautiful young children. She needs our help to provide food, shelter, medical care, clothing, education, and all other life needs for them. Here's Lia's own words:
"Over the past year, my sister Eliete had been bravely fighting lung and stomach cancer, along with type 1 diabetes. As a missionary to Portuguese-speaking people, I was serving at a women’s conference in Cape Verde, Africa, when things took a turn for the worse. I rushed to Houston on June 27th to be with her. Tragically, on June 29th, she passed away suddenly, leaving behind her two children, Emily (8) and Thomas (14). The day before her passing, Eliete seemed in good health, giving us hope. However, on the morning of the 29th, she came to me at 8 a.m. with a bloody basin, asking for help. She was vomiting blood and despite my mother and I trying to assist her, she passed away within 30 minutes. Her son Thomas, showing remarkable strength and courage, performed CPR with guidance from 911, but sadly, we couldn't save her.
"Now, as the guardian of Emily and Thomas, I am facing significant challenges. With limited resources and a modest missionary income, I'm working to secure the necessary paperwork to legally work in the U.S. and provide for my niece and nephew, who are both American citizens. This unexpected responsibility has brought us to a crucial point in our lives as we adjust to a new reality in Houston.
"Your support is vital in helping us navigate this difficult time. Donations will go towards securing legal guardianship, providing stable housing, and ensuring that Emily and Thomas receive the care and education they need. As I work to build a stable environment for them, your generosity can help ease our transition and offer these children a chance for a brighter future. Please consider donating, sharing our story, and keeping us in your prayers."
Galen: can you help Lia? All funds received by Medical Ambassadors International will be sent to Lia who is one of our missionaries. Thank you for considering this request!
