Friends and Family,
As you know, Alaska Women's Health is one big family. Our employees are the heartbeat, the pulse of our clinic, and without them we wouldn't be who we are. Recently, one of our own received the heartbreaking diagnosis of cancer.
On Wednesday, November 27th, Laurie Johnson (an employee of 20+ years), was diagnosed with a rare Sarcoma. Laurie is one of the kindest, hardest working people you will ever meet. Truly, to know her is to love her. And while this diagnosis has been difficult to comprehend, Laurie has kept the most positive outlook.
The next several months will be a whirlwind of medical care for Laurie at the Kansas University Sarcoma Center. First, Laurie will undergo a below-the-knee amputation at the end of January. Her surgical recovery is expected to take anywhere from 8-10 weeks. After she has recovered from surgery, she will be fit for a prosthetic limb and begin her journey of rehab. Laurie will need to learn to walk again, drive again, and navigate life with a prosthesis.
As such, Laurie will be out of work and away from home for an extended period of time resulting in a significant financial burden. We hope to raise money to offset Laurie's medical and living expenses during this time.
If you feel inclined to donate and share, it would be so appreciated!
