Hello, my name is Christopher Harris. My first thoughts aren't typically aimed at reaching out for help, but when it comes to my dog, I'm willing to do anything.
In June of 2025, my dog Koda was diagnosed with diabetes. Ever since then, he's been taking his insulin dosages every 12 hours. But lately, he's needed help keeping an appetite, and his diabetes has gotten more challenging. On 12/31/25, I was given a few realistic choices. I can either pay upwards of $6k and have him hospitalized so they can monitor and figure out exactly what he needs with a 70% chance of survival, or I could spoil him for a few days and let him go.
That night, we went and got a pup cup and a cheeseburger from McDonald's, something I don't think he's ever gotten in his whole doggy life. But he ate it. He ate his dog food when he came home. He took his insulin and continued this trend into the following day. It's like he's showing me he wants to fight a little longer. To those who know Koda, know that I've had him since he was 8 weeks old. He's been through so many life events and memories. And each pet, each direct eye contact with him.. its breaking my heart. As a dad, I would do anything for my daughter Shiloh, and I realized I need to do the same for him. I'll be calling the emergency vet on 1/2/26 to set him up for his hospital stay. If anyone can help me in any way, I would be forever grateful.
