Camp Stillwater: A healing legacy for veterans

Donation protected
Camp Stillwater was the first ADA compliant healing center for combat wounded vets in the United States. The camp has partnered with vetetan organizations to provide guided hunting and fishing trips for purple heart recipients, for more than ten years.

The camp was built by a gentleman named John who built both his home and the bunkhouse on his property by hand over ten years. Many community members and veterans have volunteered their time to help with both construction of the bunkhouse, fundraisers and more.

The camp is at risk of closing due to the owner having some bad luck with medical events (surgeries and a cardiac event). He had very little income during that time, and had some bills go to collections that have now gone to court for non-payment. They are forcing him to sell the property, and the only way to save it is to come up with the full amount (82k) before the final papers are signed on a sale, so time is of the essence!

John has put his heart and soul and retirement into his home and property known as Camp Stillwater. The bunkhouse he built was the very first ADA compliant healing center for combat wounded veterans in the United States at the time. Being a retired hunting and fishing guide, John has hosted many guided hunting and fishing trips over the years, for free.

For the last couple of years he's been either recovering or too busy trying to catch up on bills to guide trips for veterans, but all veterans and their families have been able to vacation with their families fot free at the camp, which is in the North Cascades National Park.

John needs our help to be able to carry on the mission that has become his purpose. John has coached kids wrestling in the community, survival classes, hunter's education, search and rescue, builds wheelchair ramps for veterans in need and so much more. I can't begin to list all of the ways that this man has sacrificed for others. But I can promise you that you won't find a more deserving person to help and in doing so you will help the entire veteran community.

Thank you for your consideration in helping preserve John's legacy. Even if you can't donate, please share so that this reaches the right people. It means more than you'll ever know.
