If you have ever had the privilege of meeting Jim Kerbel, then you are a very fortunate individual. Jim has been a long time resident of Jenison, MI. He and his wife Sue have raised their two wonderful children there, Kris (spouse, Larry Faber) and JR (spouse, Angie). Jim and Sue have four amazing grandchildren as well. Kris works in the Jenison Public School district and JR is a teacher who lives in Colorado.
This amazing man has been a pillar in the Jenison community for as long as anyone can remember. Jim was a teacher in the Godfrey Lee school district and Sue co-owned a local stained glass shop. Jim spent his free time for 40+ years actively coaching football. He coached first at Lee High and then in the Jenison community. Jim also umpired high school softball games for 50 some years as well. As you can imagine, Jim has positively impacted the lives of many, many young people. Jim and Sue are are the kind of people who give back and help those in need. Both of them are involved with the Georgetown Senior Center and also help deliver Hand2Hand bags to local schools. Jim and Sue have also been very active members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Some of you may already know that Jim was diagnosed with Lymphoma back in 2008. He courageously battled that terrible disease for several years and beat the odds. Good things happen to good people and Jim was blessed to find a stem cell donor match. He underwent a very painful, but successful bone marrow transplant in 2012. Jim has been a fighter and a tremendous inspiration to all those around him. After his successful transplant, Jim continued to give back to his community and even this past Fall he was out helping coach a Cub Football team.
Fast forward to today. Jim is now facing another extremely difficult uphill battle as he was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Jim and Sue are determined to once again fight with everything that they have. Jim is scheduled to have surgery to remove the tumor on his pancreas as well as eventually start full radiation and chemo treatments. Jim's medicare insurance has a very high deductible. That combined with travel expenses for frequent medical appointments, is a financial hardship for the family. Please consider donating to help offset these costs. If you would prefer to send a check, it can be made out to Sue Kerbel and sent to P.O. Box 160, Hudsonville, MI 49426. Let's step up and help out this WONDERFUL human being and his family. Please note, Jim loves reading messages and words of encouragement from friends, family, former players etc. Thank you all.
