Hi! My name is Mary. I am a 63-year-old wife, mom, and grandma who has had to undergo numerous breast biopsies over the years to rule out cancer. Nine years ago, I chose to undergo a reconstructive surgery to correct some deformity that was left by the biopsies. Fat transfer from the abdomen was the only option that insurance would cover. I was left even more deformed following the surgery than before. I guess I hadn't done my homework and was guided to a surgeon who was ill-equipped to perform the procedure. Both breasts and abdomen were extremely uneven and deformed. Five years ago, I underwent a revision procedure with another surgeon, yet another fat transfer. While the results were an improvement in some ways, my abdomen is still very deformed, perhaps even more so now.
I was recently guided by a qualified medical professional to a clinic where I believe I have found a doctor who can help me. He told me my condition would be very difficult to fix and that he can't make any guarantees but that he is willing to try to correct the deformities left by the prior surgeries. He quoted me an amount that is likely the going rate for those types of procedures but well beyond my ability to pay with my little retirement income combined with my husband's income in retail sales. We barely make enough to get by on.
All I want is to look normal and not to cringe every time I look in the mirror. I know I'm not the only woman to regret having undergone elective procedures. They often don't work out, and we certainly get what we pay for, but I now understand the need to work with a qualified surgeon and hope that my request for financial assistance to meet my needs is not seen as selfish or inappropriate but just as a desire for some normalcy in my life and to be able to move ahead with more important things in life once these issues are resolved. I would appreciate any assistance that may be offered. Thank you so much!
