Support Freeman's Organic Farm

Hi guys,

I'm a Gold Coast local and like you, Freeman's organic farm holds a very special place in my heart.

Since hearing the news that David is closing the store at his farm due to border closures and financial loss - supporting his 4 staff on his own Army pension.

I wanted to start a simple Gofund me with the intention of helping David recover some of his pension and help him get through this season of uncertainty.

David has given endlessly to his community, bolstering local, organic farming, providing jobs, employment and nutrition to thousands of locals since taking over his family farm - which is both historic and I would argue that Freeman's Organic Farm is a pillar of our community.

Business' like David's cannot just be left to go under.

In the spirit of Christmas let's give back, even a small amount, to a man whose given our community so much!

Dear friends of the farm, I have some sad news. After months of soul searching, my accountant, the Qld Govt and City of Gold Coast finally made my decision very clear. Sadly since the Qld Govt hard closed the Tomewin Border Gate in March 2020, our customers have dropped off and drive by traffic by 80% and to such an extent that I was losing money every week. I persisted for the last 18 months paying my four casual staff with my entire Army pension despite not receiving a cent from the State Government and no Job keeper from the Federal Govt. Regrettably and very sadly I have to close my farm gate to our organic farm stall and cafe. I was informed yesterday by Laura Gerber MP our local MP who was informed by Qld Police that they will not open the Tomewin Border Gate until Qld has reached 90% double vaccination and this might not be until February 2022. With no support from the Qld Govt I cannot lose any more money, so on my financial advisers advice, I have to close my business until the Tomewin border gate re-opens. After 106 years of a family farm business, this saddens me enormously. I will take some time, and a short break as I have not had a holiday in 8 years since retiring from a 28 year Army career which included five overseas combat deployments. But please follow our social media and webpage as I will scale back and still provide boxes of organic produce to my genuine and regular customers. If I don’t see you before Christmas, I wish you all a very happy, peaceful and holy Christmas. Hopefully our state government can show some compassion and empathy and ongoing financial support to the southern Gold Coast businesses Cr Gail O'Neill - Division 14, Gerber Laura, Mayor Tom Tate, Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, Karen Andrews MP, who have been decimated by this hard border and restrictive border closures.
