Support for Norma in ICE Detention
Donation protected
My name is Erica daughter of Norma and I’m reaching out for support during one of the most painful moments my family has ever faced. A day ago, my mom, Norma Rios, was detained at what was supposed to be a routine immigration appointment. For the past 14 years, she has shown up to these check-ins, doing everything right. This time, even though she was scared, she still went. She was taken into ICE custody. We’ve just learned that she will be deported and that there is nothing more we can do legally to stop it. This has devastated us. My mom is the heart of our family. She’s a loving and dedicated mother to me (20), Lucia (16), and Lelys (11). Just two weeks ago, she had surgery and was still recovering when she was detained. Now she is in a facility where she has little access to the care, food, or basic necessities she needs. We are extremely worried about her health and wellbeing, especially given the awful and often neglectful conditions inside these detention centers. Nothing is free inside. Phone calls, water, hygiene products, and food all cost money. In order for her to stay connected to us, stay safe, and maintain some basic dignity while she’s being held, we have to fund her commissary account and make sure she can afford the essentials. I’ve come back home to take care of my sisters, but we’re doing this without her. It’s hard, and it hurts more than I can explain. At this point, we’re asking for help not for legal fees, but to ensure that our mom is okay. Every donation will go directly toward supporting her stay in the facility: food, water, hygiene supplies, phone time and helping us stay in touch with her while we still can. If you’re able to give, please know how deeply grateful we are. If you can’t donate, sharing this means just as much. We love our mom, and we want to make sure she knows she’s not alone. Thank you for standing with us.
Thank you to everyone that has been donating this means so much to me and my family you guys don't understand, I appreciate it so much.
