Meet Kevin — My Sweet, Strong Boy
Kevin is my first dog I’ve had on my own & my best friend, my shadow, and the one who's been by my side through every high and low. He’s full of love, personality, and always makes people smile with his gentle spirit. He will be 6 in October & is overall still is great physical & mental condition & I know my boy can & does have a few more years to thrive!!
Recently, over the past 2 years Kevin’s right eye initially caught my attention because of cherry eye. I then noticed a cyst like bump in his eyebrow above his right eye that concerned me. The first biopsy in April 2023 came back non cancerous so I thought it could have been allergy related & we treated it with prednazone and eye drops. Fast forward to the past few months, the bump above his brow doubling in size, we’be been through many vet visits, bloodwork, and a CT scan, we’ve learned he likely has an aggressive tumor in/under his skull.
While a biopsy didn’t give a full diagnosis, the tumor is invasive, rapidly growing, and causing pressure on his eye, consuming a good portion of his sinus cavity and nearing his brain, the veterinary team is highly concerned that it is cancerous. Possibly osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, or another type of malignant bone tumor.
The good news: There’s no sign of cancer spreading to his lungs or organs, so we have a window of opportunity to treat him.
The treatment plan includes:
• Radiation therapy (either Stereotactic Radiation (quoted around $9K) or Palliative Radiation (quoted around $7K) to slow or shrink the tumor.
• Zoledronate infusions (quoted $560/treatment once a month) to help stop bone destruction and relieve pain.
• Medications to manage his comfort
These treatments could give Kevin months or even years of quality life — pain-free and full of tail wags — but the costs are far more than I can afford alone.
The full treatment plan ranges from $6,000 to $10,000, depending on what his specialists recommend after next steps.
I am doing everything I can for him — working with an amazing oncology team, making payments on my Care Credit card for our cat scan, bloodwork, & xrays vet bill of $3,500, and staying hopeful. But I can’t do this alone.
Please consider donating or sharing. Every dollar helps us get closer to giving Kevin the chance he deserves. He’s already been through so much and is still full of love and life.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart — for reading, for sharing, and for helping me give Kevin the care he needs.
Thank you for anything you can do & sending you the most love!!
