Support for Ian Young

On 1 August 2017 Ian was involved in a horrific motor bike accident in Darwin, NT. He suffered extensive injuries to his lower left leg which resulted in an above knee amputation. He also suffered a cracked left scapula and 3 broken ribs.
Ian returned to Perth, W A on 25 August and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at our local hospital, and in time will receive a prosthetic limb.
Most of the medical expenses are covered by the public health system, but we require assistance with the following expenses which are not covered by medicare or insurance:
- travel expenses for Tamsin to be with Ian in Darwin for 2 weeks initially post surgery, and then return to Darwin to accompany him on his flight back home,
- ambulance costs,
- ongoing medication expenses and
- alternative treatments (like acupuncture) to assist with pain relief
- modifications in the home
In addition, Ian is looking at performing at the Aussie Pipe Championships. As a piper this requires him to be able to walk with the prosthesis - and play his pipes. Walking unaided with an above the knee prosthesis is more difficult than a below the knee prosthesis.
As Tamsin will be required to travel with him as his carer, assistance is needed with funding to get them to the Aussie Pipe Championships in Brisbane
