Support for Beth's Breast Cancer Journey
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sara and Beth is one of my lifelong best friends. If you know this amazing woman at all, she is not the type to ask for help, so some of Beth's other friends and I are doing it for her. No one should struggle, especially during a time when they should be focused on their health. Please join us as we help raise some funds to help this beautiful lady!
Beth was first diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma in October 2019 at age 41. Even though her tumor was small and the cancer was stage 1, she has a strong family history of breast cancer at a young age. Her mother and maternal grandmother were both diagnosed around age 40. She went through genetic testing and discovered she had a CHEK2 mutation. Her doctor then recommended a bilateral mastectomy in hopes to prevent a recurrence from happening down the road. She had the mastectomy and reconstruction in February 2020 and no further treatment was recommended at the time.
Cancer reared its ugly head again in August of 2022 when Beth found another lump during a self-exam. The biopsy showed this was a recurrence of the invasive ductal carcinoma. She had surgery to remove the lump in October 2022 and it was determined she had stage 1 cancer again. This time her oncologist determined radiation treatments would be necessary. Beth began daily radiation treatments on December 27th, 2022, with February 7th as the last scheduled treatment. In addition to the current course of treatment, Beth recently found out that a hysterectomy has been recommended to greatly reduce estrogen production to prevent a recurrence of breast cancer and reduce her risk of ovarian cancer. The extent of the hysterectomy (full or partial) is unknown at this time. She has met with one doctor but is seeking a second opinion with another gynecologist, but the surgery will happen later this year.
As of the end of January, she has been off work for three weeks without pay while she is going through radiation treatments. She is uncertain if she will be approved for short-term disability as her radiation oncologist has not signed off on the paperwork. The medical bills have already put her in a tough situation financially and being off work without pay has created an even bigger strain. Because Beth's community is amazing, I know the first thing people will say is, “How can we help?” That is why I started this GoFundMe. If you’re able to help financially, please consider donating. All money raised will go directly to Beth (and if you have any questions about that, don’t hesitate to reach out). The funds raised will help cover: missed wages, treatment, medical supplies, groceries and meal prep, rehab/recovery, and other unforeseen expenses that may come up in response to her journey with cancer. All donations are much appreciated and welcomed with much love!
