My name is Janice, and I am reaching out on behalf of my family, especially my youngest daughter, Aurora. Aurora was born with myelomeningocele, Spina Bifida. Myelomeningocele is the most severe type of spina bifida, a birth defect where the spine and spinal canal don't close properly, causing the spinal cord and nerves to protrude in a fluid-filled sac from the back. This results in neurological damage, leading to issues like leg weakness/paralysis, loss of sensation, bladder/bowel control problems, and often hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain). A condition that has required us to make many changes in our lives to ensure she receives the care she needs. I recently had to take a new part-time position with less pay so I could be there for her appointments and provide the support she deserves. This has made it difficult to keep up with our regular bills and the extra expenses that come with Aurora’s medical needs.

Aurora is bright, resilient, and strong. She loves to watch Ms. Rachel and listen to music. Despite her medical challenges, she always greets each day with endless curiosity. Her determination inspires everyone around her.
