For years, Deepti has stood alongside some of the most marginalized communities in Nepal, helping stateless individuals, especially women and children, secure citizenship certificates and reclaim their dignity, rights, and future.

Who Is Deepti Gurung?

Deepti is the Co-Founder of the Citizenship Affected People’s Network (CAPN) in Nepal, a grassroots movement advocating for inclusive citizenship laws. Her advocacy has directly helped countless stateless people obtain citizenship documents, including her own two daughters, who were formerly stateless due to Nepal’s gender-discriminatory citizenship laws.

About Deepti’s Medical Condition

Deepti has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of cancer that originates in the lymphatic system—an essential part of the body’s immune defense. This cancer affects lymphocytes (white blood cells) and can spread throughout the body if left untreated.

The good news is that Deepti was diagnosed at an early stage, which significantly improves the chances of successful treatment and recovery. However, treatment for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma—including chemotherapy, diagnostic tests, hospital care, medications, and follow-up treatment—is extremely costly, especially in contexts where comprehensive health insurance and public support are limited.
