Kirsten created this fundraiser for Charles Okoth, a dear friend and colleague, as he faces an unimaginable loss. Charles’ wife, Claire, went into cardiac arrest during childbirth and sadly passed away several days later. At the same time, their newborn son, Clive, is currently in the ICU, fighting through a critical start to life. In a matter of days, Charles has been forced to endure the heartbreak of losing Claire while also worrying for Clive’s survival, all while medical bills and funeral expenses continue to grow.

Claire was a compassionate, welcoming person who touched so many lives. She loved people deeply, especially children, and served her community with transparency, integrity, respect, and a passion for equity. Claire had beautiful dreams for the future, including returning to school and helping start a community organization to empower vulnerable families through skills development, holistic care, and environmental stewardship. Her passing leaves an enormous void in the lives of those who knew and loved her.

This fundraiser will help cover medical expenses that have accrued, Clive’s ICU medical care, Claire’s funeral expenses, and provide support to Charles as he navigates these challenges. For transparency, Kirsten will receive the funds in the US and send them directly to Charles in Uganda using Remitly.
