Below are words direct from Benjamin Close, Local Business Man who owns his own Hairdressing Salon in Bangor Co Down, who has organised this fundraiser… check out his story below….
Once the self-declared president of the “I Only Run if There is Cake” club, I’ve somehow found myself lacing up for the Belfast half marathon followed by the Bangor 10k which takes place a week later….. willingly, without being chased!
As the family’s former reigning champion of avoiding exercise ( my cardio used to be speed walking to the fridge), this transformation has shocked everyone, especially me.
You would think being the son of a Professional Boxer, I would have inherited at least some love for Sport? But Nope- here I am, lighter, fitter, and fuelled by more than just protein bars-
I am running to Raise money for the Residents of Phoenix Clinic- this is a facility in Newtownards, Northern Ireland that provides a home for physically disabled adults aged 18-65, specialising in Brain Illness and Injury.
This incredible Care Home that looks after my Dad- Raymond Close- due to his traumatic Brain Injury. The team at Phoenix Clinic are nothing short of miracle workers- they care for him with genuine love, patience and professionalism that has changed all
our lives.
Money raised will go directly to all the residents, to facilitate extra activities to make sure that these adults have enriched days full of fun and stimulation.
So please donate…. If not for the Residents of Phoenix, then for the sheer miracle of me choosing a finish line over the sofa, lol!

On behalf of the residents in Phoenix we extend our unending gratitude to Ben for undertaking this challenge. Please show him and our beloved residents the love and support they deserve.
