Support Angel Gomez in paying medical bills
Hi,
My name is Angel Gomez, some may know me by my nickname, Jubi.
For some time now I have been feeling really unwell. Weak, in a heavy fog, dizzy, frequent abdominal pains among a whole list of other symptoms. It was hard to function day to day. But without ANY health insurance I resisted seeking help for some time. It finally reached a peak and I went into a walk-in clinic and they did some blood work.
April 26th, the doctor called me and told me I needed to go to the hospital immediately. He said my blood glucose and ketones were off the charts.
I went to the hospital and they confirmed it was bad. My Blood Glucose was at 20.2 and the rest of my blood work was awful. They were ready to take me into ICU but after pleading with them over costs as I had no insurance they worked around it for me. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.
But due to how bad off I was they kept me for 2 days in emergency care. They released me the 28th to save me from a longer bill though they wished to keep me longer.
I was prescribed insulin and got all my needles, glucose meters etc etc for $289 cad
They sent me to an endocrinologist which costed me $547 cad and they prescribed me another medication for 21.10 cad.
I kept my twitter updated and with people's support managed to raise 4, 048.60 USD through ko-fi donations and after working on adoptables to sell.
I can't thank everyone for the amount of support they have given me in such a short amount of time. I was asked the full amount needed often to which I could not say. I've been calling the hospital's financial office, leaving many messages for days.
I finally got a response. They told me I'm looking at over 7,715 CAD for the bottom price, but that they will need to make additional calls to gather up the fees for other expenses used during my full stay. To which she assured me to expect about $8,500 CAD
She let me know I can do a payment plan but would need a large portion upfront. I'll be discussing it later this week once they have gathered and sent out my bills, as they will be sending two separate ones.
I'm doing all I can to work in gaining the funds and as much as it pains me to ask, I need help. Living paycheck to paycheck has been hard as is, Diabetes was the last thing I needed, especially with no insurance.
With the help of the donations and other work I've gotten paid for we've managed to put together a large portion of the costs! I am so grateful. The estimate for what I think the bare minimum of what I need help with raising is 2,500 CAD
