I am Andre Kent, known for my lifelong dedication to hard work and caring for others, including family, friends, colleagues, and even strangers.
My work ethic has always been a cornerstone of my life. Despite numerous falls at work signaling it was time to retire, I continued working far beyond what was safe for me and those around me. Eventually, I had to make the difficult decision to leave my job.
Diagnosed with polymyositis over 25 years ago, I've faced a progressive weakening of my muscles, affecting my legs, core, shoulders, and arms. This condition has severely limited my mobility, confining me to using a walker within my home and relying on my wife for transportation, as the fear of falling prevents me from venturing outside alone.
The onset of Covid-19 coincided with my retirement, and the savings my wife and I accumulated were quickly allocated to making our home accessible and settling debts, leaving us without a financial cushion.
Falls have become a dangerous reality for me; on one occasion, I had no choice but to seek emergency assistance. Since then, I've restricted my movements to avoid further incidents.
Currently, I am covered by Medicare, which unfortunately does not extend to the deductible for the power wheelchair prescribed by my doctor—a tool that would grant me a measure of independence and reduce the risk of falls. This wheelchair is powered and will give me up and down ability which I can't do on my own. Who knew PowerChairs would cost so much? But they do. What I'm asking for is just half the cost. I never knew what handicapped people were going through. Now I do.
The acquisition of this wheelchair could significantly improve my quality of life and alleviate stress. Any assistance in this matter would be deeply appreciated.
