Support Alex's Senior Thesis Film Project

Hi, my name is Alex Benowitz and I am fundraising for my senior thesis film titled 'Secret Sharon'.

The film is a short dramatic comedy following Sharon (60), a Jewish woman from Long Island who has a complicated relationship with her son, Cooper (26). Since his childhood, Sharon drilled ideas into Cooper's head like "don't ever get a tattoo" and "one day you will marry a nice Jewish girl." Sharon and Cooper watch 'The Bachelor' together every Monday night, however, Cooper begins to make a habit of cancelling their weekly plans. When Sharon asks Cooper why he is cancelling, he responds with very vague answers prompting Sharon to think something is wrong. Her heightened anxiety leads absurd conclusions that her son is mixed up with drugs, or illegal gambling, or something dangerous. Sharon's fears implore her to take matters into her own hands, resulting in her spying on her son!

This film will be the last project that I produce at Ithaca College and I think it is an opportunity for me to reflect on what I have learned throughout my college experience. Thematically, this story is very connected to myself. Leaving home and going away to college prompts major changes to familial relationships that can be difficult to deal with and this film is a commentary on those difficulties.
