Support Alaura in Kyeir's Cancer Battle
Donativo protegido
Hello, my name is Rebecca.
I am fundraising to help my daughter, Alaura.
Alaura's middle son, 7 year old Kyeir, has just been diagnosed with a very rare type of brain cancer called Primary Diffuse Leptomengial Melanocytosis.
This type of brain melanoma accounts for less than 1% (only 40 total cases have been reported worldwide) of brain cancers. So, there is very little data and research to rely on to aid doctors in knowing how to treat the cancer. Prognosis is usually between 6-12 months after diagnosis and the disease is very aggressive.
In the 2 months since Kyeir was diagnosed with Meningeal Melanoma, he has spent approximately 6 weeks of that 2 months in the hospital for testing and to ease the symptoms he suffers from the disease.
Kyeir has had to have numerous MRI's and CT's as well as a brain biopsy and brain surgery to place a reservoir on the surface of his brain so that cerebral spinal fluid can be drained to relieve pressure build up on his brain. As the pressure slowly builds on his brain over a few days, he will begin having blurred vision, nausea, vomiting and unbearable headaches that cause him to scream in pain until the fluid can be removed from his brain after which he will suffer walking and other motor skill impairment for several days as well as memory loss, confusion, emotional issues and severe fatigue among other issues.
As Kyeir has to frequently be admitted to the hospital for almost a week when he has an episode, Alaura has lost a lot of time at work to stay with him at the hospital.
As a result of her time lost at work her bills are slowly starting to get behind. I help her as much as possible but am on disability myself and have limited funds with which to aid her.
Alaura's cars transmission blew on her SUV estimating $7,100 to fix making a already hard situation even more difficult. She then purchased another vehicle that ended up being a lemon only 45 days after purchase. She is using a rental until they undo the loan on the lemon to be able to purchase another car. Which is just sucking up more and more money every week.
My daughter has always been a God-fearing, ambitious, self-sufficient, hard-working lady. She put herself through college to become an aesthetician and has owned her own business in Gladstone, Missouri for several years now.
On top of building her own business from the ground up she is also the mother of my 4 beautiful grandchildren whom she home schools every day before going to work. She doesn't let anything stop her and regardless what life throws at her she always has a beautiful smile on her face and gives back to her community at every opportunity. She is a very strong woman, loving mother and daughter and I couldn't be more proud to call her my daughter.
I am asking on her behalf for donations to help with medical bills and money to get her the transportation she so desperately needs right now.
We all need a helping hand from time to time. Please, if you can, make a donation to help her stay on her feet so that she can care and provide for her children.
I would like to thank you in advance for any help you can give and may God bless you for your generosity.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Atkinson
