Meet Al B. Sure, a sweet, fiercely intelligent pup who’s had quite a journey. Only 3 weeks ago, my brother-in-law found this little guy abandoned and cold, huddled under a truck and getting repeatedly shocked by an electronic collar. We gladly adopted Al B. when no one recognized him or came forward looking for him.
While I was in the hospital recovering from surgery the following week, Al B. started feeling unwell. It was determined that he caught leptospirosis, a bacterial disease he was scheduled to be vaccinated against next week (he’s too small to get all his shots at once.)
Lepto is a serious illness for a dog to beat, and it takes a lot of time and supportive care to make a full recovery. The expenses for Al B.’s care are already into 5 figures and we’re maxed out on veterinary credit options. But while lepto is serious and expensive to treat, Al B. has responded very well so far and is expected to fully recover so long as he can continue to get expert care for a little while longer. Things are a little tougher right now while I’m temporarily out of work recovering from spinal cord surgery. But there will be no better Christmas gift than for my baby to recover and come back home.
Any little bit helps us as our “little lamb” Al B. continues to fight with the spirit of a lion! Thank you for your support ❤️
