Equipo Academy Summer College Fund

We are four students at Equipo Academy, a public college prep school at East Las Vegas. Earlier this year, we applied to college summer programs all across the country in order to practice college applications and learn what it is like to be on a college campus.

When our acceptance letters arrived, we were extremely excited because not only did we get in, but we also all received partial scholarships to our various programs! We immediately started fundrasing for the remainder of tuition and all of airfare by selling pizza after school. This has earned a little bit of money, but we are still short of our goal. This will not only be a new experience for all of us, but it will expand our education and make us even more prepared for college in the future. It is especially exciting because all four of us will be first-generation college graduates.

Learn a little more about us: 

Eduardo: I am fundraising for the Minority Introduction To Engineering (MITE) summer camp program at Missouri University of Science and Technology. It is a 5 day program in Rolla, Missouri. I am excited about attending this program because it gives me an opportunity to work on the things I enjoy doing with a hands-on experience. I am good with my hands and love technology and science. Creating things that may or may not be of use is one of my many passions, though I believe everything has a use. I still need to raise $450 to cover the cost for the plane ticket to Saint Louis and bus ticket to Rolla.

Jasmin: I am fundraising for the AWE+SUM program at Westminster College which is a program focused on math and science. It is 4 days long in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Science and math are very important to the future and I am excited to learn more about them.  I need to fundraise $300 for a round trip plane ticket to Salt Lake City.

Brandon: I am fundraising for the PREFACE program at Purdue University, which is an engineering program for high school students. It is 6 days long in West Lafayette, Indiana. I am most excited about learning why more engineers are needed. I also want to meet new people and work together to find a solution to engineering problems. I need to raise $613 to cover the remaining cost of my discounted tuition and my round trip plane ticket to Indianapolis. 

 Jose: I am fundraising for the Leadership Institute for Entrepreneurship (LIFE) program at Susquehanna University. It is 7 days long in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. I am most excited about learning how to become a successful entrepreneur.  This is something that is interesting to me because I am very independent, so I would like to work for myself instead of working for someone else. This program will give me a better look at money, business, and entrepreneurship. I still need to raise $600 to cover the remainder of tuition and my plane ticket to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

We are only four out of many students from our school that got accepted for summer programs, such as New York University Pre College, Johns Hopkins Discovery Program, PricewaterhouseCoopers Accounting Careers Ledearship Institute at Bryant University, and Boston University Summer Challenge. Unfortunately, many of our classmates were unable to meet the tution deposit deadline for their programs. Therefore, if we raise more money than we personally need for our programs, we will create a fund for next year's accepted students with the unused money.
