A year and still suffering

On the 14th of March 2020 our family had heard the news no family would ever wish to hear. My little brother had been stabbed in the heart whilst making his way to dinner with his twin brother and their female friends. My brother was stabbed by a gang member and his mistaken belief that Ahmad was an active member of a rival gang.
Since then life for us as a family has been a nightmare. Doctors told us to prepare for the worst and that Ahmad was coming to the end of his life. The doctors said they did not expect him survive the week. Upon seeing Ahmad he looked awful, we could not believe what a state he was in and that we were going to lose him, we started to prepare for his funeral. Despite this, Ahmad pulled through, although he has never regained consciousness and his condition has not improved and the outcome still remains the same, Ahmad refuses to give up on life. He loves and always loved life - he was always so full of joy and laughter and his personality would fill the room.
Since July he has been heavily sedated at all times because of continuous “storming” as a result of Hypoxia. When Ahmad storms he sweats profusely, his heart rate and temperature becomes extremely elevated and his whole body shakes violently. He goes through extreme pain and distress. He has been resuscitated on at least 5 occasions. This is unimaginably distressing and heart-breaking for us to see.
We have decided to open a go fund me page in the hope that we get Ahmad the suitable care and the expertise by a specialised brain doctor or into a rehabilitation centre for brain injury patients. We are extremely grateful to his doctors whom have helped him so far and the incredible nurses that took care of him and believe just as much as us that he will regain consciousness one day. However the doctors have not experienced a situation such as Ahmad’s and have not given us answers aside from telling us “its Ahmad’s choice when he wants to leave” or that he will always be dependant and will never be the same. We know he will live, but we are running out of time. We regret to write he already looks deformed but his organs are working. Before it’s too late we want to start pulling our weight. To stop feeling sorry for ourselves and do something for the boy we love!
