Who we are:
Our names are Wahaj Bokhari and Asher Abbas, based in the Greater Toronto Area. For years, we’ve been involved in community relief and fundraising efforts. Personally, I (Wahaj) have been a monthly donor towards the Sudan crisis since April 2023. But as the conflict has dragged on and the suffering has only worsened, I realized that personal contributions alone are no longer enough. That’s why Asher and I are now reaching out — asking our community to come together to multiply our impact and bring hope to families who desperately need us.
What’s happening in Sudan:
Since April 2023, Sudan has been torn apart by war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. The scale of the humanitarian crisis is staggering:
- 25 million people — half the country — urgently need aid.
- 13 million displaced within Sudan, and more than 3 million refugees abroad.
- Famine declared in camps where children are starving to death.
- Cholera outbreak with over 32,000 cases and thousands of fatalities.
- Hospitals, schools, and displacement camps have been bombed and shelled, killing civilians, including women and children.
Families are starving, children are malnourished, and preventable diseases are spreading — simply because basic resources are out of reach.
Who will receive the funds & how will they be delivered?
All funds raised through this campaign will be delivered directly to Islamic Relief, one of the largest, most trusted humanitarian organizations with active teams working in Sudan. Islamic Relief has long-standing access in the region and is one of the few organizations able to reach communities even in the hardest-hit areas.
How will the funds be spent?
Your donations will go directly towards:
- Emergency food parcels to prevent starvation
- Clean water and sanitation kits to fight cholera and other deadly diseases
- Medical care and supplies for families in camps and clinics
- Shelter and basic survival needs for displaced families who have lost everything
How you can help (our urgent call):
We’re inviting everyone to donate $100 if you’re able. But beyond that, we’re asking you to bring in 3 more people from your circle to also donate $100 each. And then ask them to do the same.
This simple chain means one person’s generosity can multiply into thousands raised for families in Sudan. Together, we can create a wave of impact.
