Start a Kitchen to Turn Surplus Food into Meals

My name is Jessy. Born and raised in Singapore, I have called Australia home since 2006, deeply shaped by the kindness, values, and spirit of this beautiful land.

My journey began with a simple desire: to make sure good food never goes to waste and that no person feels invisible when they are hungry. What started as a small act of sharing has grown into a movement of love.

I am starting this fundraiser to raise the funds needed to launch a kitchen dedicated to turning surplus food into nourishing, ready-to-eat meals that can be enjoyed immediately, offered freely or at an affordable cost, always with dignity and without judgment to individuals and families doing it tough.

I don’t see myself as anything special, just an ordinary woman with a heart to serve meals with care and warmth, because I believe that nourishment is about more than just food; it’s about love and hope.

Every day, thousands of kilograms of edible food are discarded across Australia, even as many people struggle with food insecurity. Many organisations work tirelessly to rescue and redistribute surplus food, and while many do benefit, I have witnessed firsthand that a heartbreaking gap still exists-whether it’s an elderly person too frail to cook, someone experiencing homelessness without kitchen access, a parent overwhelmed by crisis, a person living with illness or disability, or someone who simply lacks the skills to turn raw ingredients into a meal, moments like these remind us that "access to food doesn’t always mean having a meal.” Too often, this means precious food still goes to waste.

My mission is to bridge this gap.
