Our 11 year old daughter, Emma, recently went into Diabetic Ketoacidosis and was on the verge of a diabetic coma. She collapsed at home and had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance. None of us, including her doctor, knew she has Type 1 Diabetes - a life altering autoimmune disease without a cure.
Emma spent two days in the ICU and several more in the hospital. Because of how severe her case was, the doctors were deeply concerned about potential brain damage and other complications. Thankfully, she seems to have cleared those hurdles, but her body has been through significant trauma. It will take time for her to recover - she currently can’t walk on her own and needs assistance with most daily tasks.
This is a lifelong condition with no cure, and we’re just starting to learn how to manage it. There are so many new devices and injections among other medications and tracking methods to learn and use multiple times every single day. Emma is understandably struggling to process everything, so we’d greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers as she adjusts.
This experience has been overwhelming emotionally, and it’s going to be financially difficult too. If you’re able to contribute, even a dollar or two would mean the world to us. Thank you for your support.
Love,
Connor, Katelyn, and Emma ❤️
