STAND with MIKE - Standing Wheelchair

STAND with MIKE!!! If you have ever had the opportunity to meet Michael "BIG MIKE" Martinez you know just what type of young man he is. Michael is one of the kindest and most giving people that I know . Michael is the one person who is always there to support his peers and has an encouraging word for everyone he meets. Michael is not only a full time college student but he regularly volunteers in his community and can be found almost every Friday visiting one of the local grade schools or junior high schools mentoring students with Men of Distinction (MOD) or the Hispanic Latino Student Association (HLSA).  Michael is the founder of the annual wheelchair basketball game  fundraiser at Carl Sandburg College as well as a Carl Sandburg College ambassador and honorary assistant coach to the women's basketball, softball and volleyball teams and the men's basketball and baseball teams.  Michael also spearheads the annual SPINA BIFIDA AWARENESS campaign on campus each year in an attempt to bring awareness to the birth defect that he was born with.  Michael has been given the opportunity to purchase a "standing" wheelchair and a GREATLY reduced price. The chair will cost $5000.00 and will give him the opportunity to STAND as he talks and interacts with his peers.
