The Back Story:
At only 4 months old, little Katie began having seizures and was diagnosed with infantile spasms, a form of infant epilepsy. After a great deal of meetings with experts and performing several tests, she was ultimately diagnosed with focal cortical dysplasia. Katie tried many anti-seizure medications and had an unsuccessful brain resection surgery in 2015. Katie’s parents knew they were running out of options. It was time to consider a much more extreme surgery option to help stop her seizures.
On January 23, 2018, at the age of four, Katie had a functional brain hemispherectomy. During this intensive surgery, Katie’s right side of her brain was disconnected from the left in an effort to save her healthy left brain. Katie is currently functioning (talking & eating) with half of her brain, but the surgery has left her with paralysis on her left side. She is now in an inpatient rehab center to rebuild the functionality on her left side.
Here she is in the expert care of trained professionals to help her regain the strength and ability to use her left side to walk, fully speak, and function as a healthy kid!

How You Can Help!
As Katie's parents are grateful this surgery has been successful, the surgery itself, and the recovery have been a long expensive process! Your donations would help pay these mounting medical costs, including the live-in rehab center Katie has been in for almost a month now. Katie's family would be truly grateful for any donation you can make, no matter how big or small!
Please spread the word!
