COVID-19 Crisis Fund for Nauru Refugee Family

Donation protected
Before New York State's COVID-19 lockdown, Yogarasa worked as an Uber and Lyft driver.

Since the crisis hit, he's been out of work, and the family is struggling to cover rent and necessities for their two children, Epsiba, 11, and Kristopher, 7.  They're trying to keep up with school work with the kids, but it's a challenge in their small apartment.

The Aussie-run Ads-Up Refugee Network has created this emergency GoFundMe and linked it directly to the family’s bank account -- donations are processed in USD. If you can, please chip in now to help give them a fair go, so they can cover rent, food and can continue to provide for their two young children >>

Like thousands of other recently arrived refugees, Yogarasa's family lives pay-check to pay-check but will struggle to access America's emergency COVID-19 assistance package.  The family arrived in the USA after four years stranded on Nauru, in conditions condemned by the UN and Amnesty International.

Epsiba is in Grade 6 and enjoys school, science is her favourite subject and she has been busy creating abstract drawings and paintings. Kristopher is in the first grade and science is also his favourite subject.

Epsida, who told us she is unsure what she would like to be when she finishes school, is taking a pragmatic approach to her future. "I will find out what my strengths are and then decide,” she told us. Kristopher would really like to be a scientist when he grows up, “so he can discover stuff.”

Like many parents across the globe, mum and dad are doing their best to keep their children engaged and schooled from home. Yogarasa says the family has been managing pretty well being stuck indoors -- since they are all too familiar with this after spending four years on Nauru.

He said he is sad and worried about everyone who has died or become unwell due to the virus. He prays daily that everyone will be okay and overcome this difficult time.

Please help us support this family to give them the fresh start they deserve >>
