Spinal Surgery for Eva

On April 22nd I’ll be having spinal cord surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. After having limited success from four spinal procedures at Boston Children’s and Brigham and Women’s Hospitals, I was referred to Dr. Schievink, a neurological surgeon with expertise in spinal cord vascular disorders. I am no stranger to back surgeries. Between my Marfan syndrome and the spinal fusion and rods placed along my spine 8 years ago, my case is pretty complex. In August 2018 symptoms arose without warning-- since then whenever I am upright, I develop debilitating headaches and a racing heart. I had to postpone my freshman year of college, and have to spend most of my time lying in bed to ward off symptoms. Medical bills have been piling up, especially with high out of network insurance deductibles. If all goes well, I plan to finally start my freshman year at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine, and finally get back to work making pottery.
