Single Mom Teacher Needs Your Help

To the world, she is Meghan – to her three kids – Logan, Ava and Beckett – she is the world - their only parent. Twelve days ago, she came home from teaching her little ones at the Montessori School and camp, and dragged up to her room – saying she felt terrible. A few minutes later – she called crying, “I have covid.” Soon after, we ended up at the Emergency Room.

Meghan has Multiple Sclerosis, and this comorbidity makes her very vulnerable. And despite being vaccinated and boosted and always wearing a mask, this is her second time getting covid this year. And, after just a few hours in the ER, she was in great pain, having difficulty breathing, and couldn't move her arms or legs. They told her she needed to be admitted.They also told her at 1:30 a.m. that her insurance covered only the ER not admittance. With no other choices at that moment (she couldn't move), she was admitted to the hospital.

She worried the whole time there that her financial responsibility for her stay was more than her yearly income! We are still dealing with that.

She was hospitalized for four days, and returned home, still unable to walk. She is getting better, but is walking with a walker, and very weak. She needs rest, peace, and not to be consumed with stress to get better, so she can go back to being a Mom, watching her boys play basketball and her daughter dance, and back to her students and teaching.

Meghan is hard working, brave and strong, but this has been hard on her physically, emotionally and financially. She has piles of bills and expenses built up from this, and in addition, has had to miss out on income that she needs to keep going. Her family Is supportive in every way, but this is a lot of stress on her., which doesn't help her to get better. She needs physical therapy, and medical care that her limited insurance doesn't cover.

If you feel moved and are able to contribute financially so that she can get the care she needs, and get some rest and pay her bills without terrible worry and stress, it would be greatly appreciated.

And if not, send love and be careful; thank your underpaid teachers; and work to make health care in this country better for all. Covid coupled with Multiple Sclerosis is stressful enough, but dealing with the financial stress that results from our broken system is a nightmare!
